\n When exploring the forest, please tread softly and observe the wildlife from a respectful distance, allowing them to go about their lives undisturbed.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Elk<\/h3>\n

\n Known as the \u201cGuardian of the Forest,\u201d the elk is one of the most impressive animals of the northern wilderness.\n <\/p>\n

\n With a body that can reach nearly three meters in length and magnificent antlers, its presence is truly breathtaking. Despite its enormous size, the elk is generally quiet and gentle by nature.\n <\/p>\n

\n If you are fortunate enough to see one moving silently through the forest, it may become one of the most memorable moments of your stay.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Reindeer<\/h3>\n

\n A symbol of Lapland\u2019s forests and snowy landscapes, reindeer have long been deeply connected to the culture and way of life of the region.\n <\/p>\n

\n Both males and females grow antlers, and even the soles of their feet are covered with insulating hair to help them withstand the harsh northern winter.\n <\/p>\n

\n Around the lodge, you may occasionally spot a group of reindeer wandering peacefully across the snow.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Fox<\/h3>\n

\n The fox is known for its remarkably beautiful coat.\n <\/p>\n

\n Its brownish summer fur transforms into a brilliant white winter coat, allowing it to blend almost seamlessly into the snowy landscape.\n <\/p>\n

\n According to an old Finnish legend, the northern lights were created when a fox raced across the snow, sweeping sparkling snowflakes into the night sky with its tail. This legend is reflected in the Finnish word for the aurora, revontulet<\/em>\u2014\u201cfox fires.\u201d\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article><\/div>\n

Red Squirrel<\/h3>\n

\n With its reddish-brown fur and wonderfully bushy tail, the red squirrel is one of the forest\u2019s most endearing residents.\n <\/p>\n

\n Unlike some small mammals, red squirrels remain active throughout the winter, darting between the trees in search of pine cones, seeds and nuts hidden away during autumn.\n <\/p>\n

\n You may even spot one popping its head above the snow and watching you with bright, curious eyes.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Norwegian Lemming Sopuli<\/span><\/h3>\n

\n Small but remarkably resilient, the Norwegian lemming\u2014known locally as sopuli<\/em>\u2014is well adapted to life in Lapland\u2019s harsh environment.\n <\/p>\n

\n Its distinctive yellow, black and brown markings make it surprisingly colorful for such a tiny animal. During winter, lemmings live beneath the snow, creating networks of tunnels that protect them from the cold.\n <\/p>\n

\n Every few years, their populations can increase dramatically, leading them to travel in search of new habitats. Though rarely noticed, these small animals play an important role in the northern ecosystem.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article><\/div>\n

\n A beautiful and intelligent bird, the Siberian jay has long held a special place in the folklore and traditions of northern forests.\n <\/p>\n

\n Its soft grey-brown plumage is accented with warm rusty-orange feathers, and its naturally curious personality means it may sometimes move from branch to branch as people pass through the forest.\n <\/p>\n

\n Listening for its gentle calls in the stillness of the Lapland wilderness is one of the quiet pleasures of spending time in the forest.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n

\n Walk carefully through the forest or across the open fells, and you may spot one almost perfectly camouflaged against its surroundings.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Winter Plumage<\/h4>\n

\n When winter arrives, its appearance changes dramatically as its plumage turns almost entirely white.\n <\/p>\n

\n Even its feet are covered in soft feathers, providing protection from the freezing temperatures and helping it move across deep snow.\n <\/p>\n
