Despite its enormous size, the elk is generally quiet and gentle by nature.\n      <\/p>\n<p>\n        If you are fortunate enough to see one moving silently through the forest, it may become one of the most memorable moments of your stay.\n      <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>  <!-- 02\u30fb03 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-pair\">\n<article class=\"elk-animal-mini-card\">\n<div class=\"elk-animal-photo\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elkauroralodge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/img_animal02.jpg\" alt=\"Reindeer\">\n      <\/div>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-content\">\n<p class=\"elk-animal-number\">02<\/p>\n<h3>Reindeer<\/h3>\n<p>\n          A symbol of Lapland\u2019s forests and snowy landscapes, reindeer have long been deeply connected to the culture and way of life of the region.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Both males and females grow antlers, and even the soles of their feet are covered with insulating hair to help them withstand the harsh northern winter.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Around the lodge, you may occasionally spot a group of reindeer wandering peacefully across the snow.\n        <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article class=\"elk-animal-mini-card\">\n<div class=\"elk-animal-photo\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elkauroralodge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/img_animal03.jpg\" alt=\"Fox\">\n      <\/div>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-content\">\n<p class=\"elk-animal-number\">03<\/p>\n<h3>Fox<\/h3>\n<p>\n          The fox is known for its remarkably beautiful coat.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Its brownish summer fur transforms into a brilliant white winter coat, allowing it to blend almost seamlessly into the snowy landscape.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          According to an old Finnish legend, the northern lights were created when a fox raced across the snow, sweeping sparkling snowflakes into the night sky with its tail. This legend is reflected in the Finnish word for the aurora, <em>revontulet<\/em>\u2014\u201cfox fires.\u201d\n        <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article><\/div>\n<p>  <!-- 04\u30fb05\u30fb06 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-trio\">\n<article class=\"elk-animal-small-card\">\n<div class=\"elk-animal-photo\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elkauroralodge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/img_animal04.jpg\" alt=\"Mountain Hare\">\n      <\/div>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-content\">\n<p class=\"elk-animal-number\">04<\/p>\n<h3>Mountain Hare<\/h3>\n<p>\n          A master of camouflage, the mountain hare changes its appearance with the seasons.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          As autumn turns to winter, its brown coat gradually transforms into soft white fur, helping it disappear into the snowy landscape.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Follow its distinctive tracks across the snow, and you may discover one curled up quietly beneath the trees.\n        <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article class=\"elk-animal-small-card\">\n<div class=\"elk-animal-photo\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elkauroralodge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/img_animal05.jpg\" alt=\"Red Squirrel\">\n      <\/div>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-content\">\n<p class=\"elk-animal-number\">05<\/p>\n<h3>Red Squirrel<\/h3>\n<p>\n          With its reddish-brown fur and wonderfully bushy tail, the red squirrel is one of the forest\u2019s most endearing residents.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Unlike some small mammals, red squirrels remain active throughout the winter, darting between the trees in search of pine cones, seeds and nuts hidden away during autumn.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          You may even spot one popping its head above the snow and watching you with bright, curious eyes.\n        <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article class=\"elk-animal-small-card\">\n<div class=\"elk-animal-photo\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elkauroralodge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/img_animal06.jpg\" alt=\"Norwegian Lemming\">\n      <\/div>\n<div class=\"elk-animal-content\">\n<p class=\"elk-animal-number\">06<\/p>\n<h3>Norwegian Lemming <span>Sopuli<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\n          Small but remarkably resilient, the Norwegian lemming\u2014known locally as <em>sopuli<\/em>\u2014is well adapted to life in Lapland\u2019s harsh environment.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Its distinctive yellow, black and brown markings make it surprisingly colorful for such a tiny animal. During winter, lemmings live beneath the snow, creating networks of tunnels that protect them from the cold.\n        <\/p>\n<p>\n          Every few years, their populations can increase dramatically, leading them to travel in search of new habitats.
